The Warring Factions

Notes on the background to the various factions in the campaign and pictures (lots) of the forces. These pages are graphically intensive and may take some time to download. You can tell something about the serious nature of this campaign from the names people have given to their armies.

• West African Republic of Trans-Ztumsia (WARTZ): The former colonial settlers of Ztumsia/Setumsia have moved to their own island enclave, made safe by naval power. (see article in Ztum-Setum Online News Issue5 for information on WARTZ politics). Trans-Ztumsia is allied with the FARTs (see below). To get round a treaty limiting the size of their Army which they signed in the 1960s they hugely expanded their navy, training large numbers of "Marines". As a result they now have two main forces involved in the Ztum-Setum wars.

• Peacekeepers International of Gurundi (PIGS): A UN Intervention Force fighting their way across Setumsia after being expelled from neighbouring Gurundi.

• Zits Old Guard (ZOGs): A breakaway group from the ZITs (see below) The ZOGs accuse the ZITs of selling out on their religion and of being nothing but evil racketeers who have debased the worhip of the god Agassou by joining with Petramco (see PISSOF below) in the lucrative JuJuJuice drugs trade.

• ZSA Alliance: An alliance between Ztumsia and Setumsia, two dictatorships who were until recently bitter enemies. The Presidents of both countries decided that their interests would be best served if they focussed their armies' efforts on overcoming common enemies rather than on fighting each other. (see article in Ztum-Setum Online News Issue 4)
  • Setumsia The Republic of Setumsia and the Army of the Republic of Setumsia (ARSe).

• Ztumsia The Peoples Republic of Ztumsia and the Peoples Army for the Nation and Tribes of Ztumsia (PANTZ).
  
  
• Ztumsi Independent Tribal Spiritualists (ZITS). Religious nutcases whose leaders are making large amounts of money from the trade in JuJuJuice, a highly addictive drug currently legal in the USA and in Europe. JuJuJuice is gaining popularity in the West and is derived from potions historically used in ZITS' religious ceremonies. The ZITS are often accused of being nothing more than a criminal gang whose leaders are in the pay of Petramco (see PISSOF below).
  
  
• Petramco International Security Service Overseas Force (PISSOF): Security troops working for Petramco International, a Multinational Company with headquarters in the USA. Petramco has a number of commercial interests in the Ztumsia/Setumsia area, it dominates the local fruit industry for example. It is also known to be involved in the JuJuJuice trade and in diamond mining. Biotechnologists working for Petramco were responsible for genetically engineering the yeast that made the production of JuJuJuice a commercial proposition. The company is at war with both the Ztumsias and Setumsian governments due to its refusal to pay taxes on its profits in the area.
  
  
• Young International Defenders of Zion (YIDZ): Israelis fighting in support of a long-lost Jewish tribe living in South West Africa. Also involved in the JuJuJuice trade and allied with the ZITs and PISSOF..
  
  
• Federated African Rhodesian Territories (FARTs) A superpower backed client state. When suitably paid the FARTs fight in alliance with the WARTZ (see below).
  

• South African Defence Force UK Regiment (SADFUKRs) A South African intervention force.
  
  
• Ztumsian Workers Eastern Alliance for Territorial Equality (ZWEATE) A Popular Front.
  
  
• Group Operational de Republic Francais (GORF). This French force arrived in Ztumsia/Setumsia to cover the evacuation of French citizens and never left.

• Tzumsian Organization of Revolting Arabic Groups. (TORAGS): These Arabs living in South West Africa are the sworn enemies of the YIDZ.
