Unit signs for British Armoured Divisions 1939-1942
The information used in drawing up these unit signs was taken from the book Military Vehicle Markings by Terence Wise (Bellona 1973). On page 11 of this book he notes "it must be remembered that these numbers were changed from time to time, partly to confuse the enemy and partly because of the ever changing composition of the divisions themselves. Units in the Western Desert Theatre used completely a different system.
